We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Literacy Specialist to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in structured literacy approaches and a passion for fostering creative language expression among students. This role involves working closely with students, teachers, and parents to improve literacy skills through evidence-based methods and innovative instructional strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Structured Literacy Instruction
Implement structured literacy programs based on scientifically proven methods.
Conduct assessments to identify students’ literacy levels and specific needs.
Develop and deliver individualized or small group instruction tailored to students’ literacy challenges.
Monitor and document students’ progress, adjusting instructional strategies as needed.
Creative Language Expression
Encourage and facilitate creative writing and language activities to enhance students’ engagement and expression.
Integrate storytelling, poetry, and other creative projects into the literacy curriculum.
Foster a classroom environment that values and nurtures students’ unique voices and ideas.
Collaboration and Professional Development
Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to integrate structured literacy strategies into daily instruction.
Provide professional development and training for teachers on effective literacy practices.
Engage with parents to support literacy development at home through workshops and resources.
Curriculum Development
Assist in the development and refinement of the literacy curriculum to ensure alignment with educational standards and best practices.
Introduce innovative teaching materials and resources that support both structured literacy and creative expression.
Advocacy and Outreach
Advocate for the importance of literacy within the school and the broader community.
Participate in outreach initiatives to promote literacy and creative language expression beyond the classroom.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Reading, Literacy, or a related field.
Certification as a Literacy Specialist or Reading Teacher.
Proven experience with structured literacy approaches such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, or similar.
Strong background in creative writing, language arts, or a related discipline.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to inspire and motivate students with diverse learning needs.
Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with literacy research and practices.
Preferred Skills
Experience with multi-sensory teaching techniques.
Knowledge of digital literacy tools and resources.
Ability to develop and implement literacy interventions for students with learning disabilities.
Familiarity with educational technology and its application in literacy instruction.
